Region Legal Service Office Southeast (RLSO SE) trial office quickly reported for an unscheduled meeting wherein Legalman 2nd Class Keia Greenwood was promoted to petty officer first class by Capt. Patrick Gibbons, commanding officer of RLSO SE on Aug. 3.  Greenwood was selected for advancement under the Meritorious Advancement Program.

A formal promotion ceremony was held at the RLSO SE headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla., on Aug. 4.  Chief Legalman Justin Hood and Legalman 1st Class Elena Goes pinned on Greenwood’s new collar devices. Following her promotion, Greenwood thanked her shipmates, Chiefs, and attorneys for helping her grow and learn as a paralegal.

During her time at RLSO SE, Greenwood has been a reliable, trustworthy, and overall outstanding performer.  She consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty, and she personifies the Navy's core values.  She has proven herself in multiple demanding positions in the busiest department at RLSO SE, excelling both on and off duty.  While in the legal assistance directorate, she assisted over 2,500 active duty, retired, and dependent personnel, facilitating completion of over 599 will executions, 948 notaries and powers of attorney, and over 1,000 customer service calls. In the trial office, Greenwood prepared over 42 military justice proceedings, coordinated travel for 63 witnesses, and provided courtroom security training to 72 personnel.  As assistant command fitness leader, she spearheaded the RLSO SE Fitness Improvement Challenge.

Beyond RLSO SE, she led and mentored 15 junior Sailors as President of the Collation of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions for Naval Air Station Jacksonville, raising $3,000 to promote positive decision-making within the installation.  Additionally, she volunteered her off-duty time to various organizations, to include Duval County Humane Society, the American Red Cross, and the Purple Strides Walk.

A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., Greenwood enlisted in 2009.  She completed recruit training before heading to Equipment Operator “A” school.  She then completed Expeditionary Combat Skills training. She then reported to Naval Construction Battalion One in May of 2010, earning her Seabee Combat Warfare pin in 2011. She has deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Greenwood reported for limited duty to Naval Construction Battalion Center in November 2012 and worked with the emergency management team supporting all emergency training. In October 2013, she was accepted to Legalmen “A” school and graduated in May 2014.

Following her graduation, she reported to RLSO SE.
